Before You Apply or Renew a License
Application processing fees are non-refundable. Please ensure you select and submit the correct application. If you have questions, contact the Teacher Licensure team at TLALicense@ksde.gov.
Visit the Fingerprint Requirement page for any questions related to your fingerprints and background check.
Before You Submit
- Always review the license requirements before applying or renewing.
- Use the License Lookup tool to check your current credentials.
Note: Submitting the incorrect application may result in delays or incorrect renewal requirements.
Kansas Educator Code of Conduct
Applications found in Kansas Licensure Applications System (KLAS)
You will need to register for/login to KLAS.
On the main menu, you will see three options:
1) KLAS
2) License Applications (you need to select this option for any application below)
3) Fingerprint Portal
To access any of the applications listed below, please select 1) KLAS
Initial Teaching License
The first license that an individual holds to begin practice as a teacher while preparing for the professional teaching license.
This application is for educators who have completed a Kansas teacher preparation program and are applying for their first teaching license.
Requirements to apply:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university
- Completion of a state of Kansas approved teacher preparation program
- Completion of a teacher work sample verified by the Kansas college/university
- Passing scores on the content assessment for your endorsement area(s)
